Jayesh Desai is a Surat-based real estate developer, entrepreneur, and the founder and chairman of Rajhans Group, a Surat-based business conglomerate established in 1996.

Early life and background

Jayesh Desai was born in the Bhavnagar district, Gujarat. He was one of five children. His father operated a small grocery shop. According to a report by Navbharat Times, the family had limited financial resources during his childhood, and their village lacked several public amenities at the time.

Career

Desai initially moved to Mumbai in search of employment and worked in a low-wage job while sharing rented accommodation with several others. He later returned to his hometown to assist his father in the family business in 1989. In the early 1990s, Desai relocated to Surat, Gujarat, where he briefly worked in the diamond trade. He subsequently explored the edible oil sector and began selling oil sourced on credit from a local mill. In 1994, he established Rajhans Group, beginning with a small oil-processing unit producing filtered groundnut and cottonseed oil. Over time, the business expanded its distribution across states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. During the 2000s and 2010s, the group diversified into additional segments, including real estate development, retail, entertainment, and confectionery. The company entered the premium chocolate market in 2014–15 with the launch of the brands Schmitten and Hoppits. The company established a chocolate manufacturing facility near Kim, in the Surat district, with a reported production capacity of around 20 tonnes per day. The group imported manufacturing technology from Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom. In June 2011, Desai purchased a Ferrari 360 Modena from cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, the very vehicle originally gifted to Tendulkar by Michael Schumacher, marking one of the widely reported personal acquisitions of Desai’s career.
